Equipment Requirements!

Equipment needed to skate:

  • Mask (must be worn on and off the ice – parents too)
  • Bib style Neck guard (hockey one is ok and can be bought at SportsCheck)
  • Helmet, hockey or bike helmet (without holes) is okay to start. Hockey helmets limit how far the skater can lift their chin to look forward for ideal speed skating technique.  
  • Clear safety glasses (Mark’s Work Warehouse, Canadian Tire, SportChek, Princess Auto)
  • Cut proof or leather gloves (Costco often has 2 pairs for $39.99 in the fall)
  • Soccer shin guards (SportsCheck)
  • Volleyball knee pads (SportsCheck)
  • Cut proof ankle socks or ankle guards (SportsCheck, Canadian Tire or Red River Speed)
